65th Anniversary of DESY: Ankara University–DESY Relations Conference
📅 Date: 26 February 2025
🕒 Time: 14:00–17:00
📍 Venue: Faculty of Dentistry Conference Hall, Ankara University, 10th Year Campus, Beşevler/Ankara
Purpose and Importance of the Conference
The conference will introduce Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) and European XFEL, two major scientific research centres located in Hamburg, Germany, and home to some of the world’s most powerful radiation sources.
It will highlight the scientific, technological, and industrial applications of research conducted at these centres, supported by concrete examples. The radiation sources provided by DESY and European XFEL enable the investigation of physical, biological, and chemical processes at the atomic scale with femtosecond (10⁻¹⁵ seconds) precision and nanosecond (10⁻⁹ seconds) intervals. These capabilities play a critical role in the advancement of high technologies.
The conference will emphasise the strategic importance of accelerator-based radiation sources for Turkish scientists and high-tech companies. Ankara University stands out as the only Turkish university with a cooperation agreement with DESY. In this context, the event will address how Ankara University researchers can benefit more effectively from the advanced research opportunities offered by DESY and European XFEL.
🔹 The conference is open to all academics, researchers, and sector representatives interested in the subject.
