Panel “Türkiye-CERN Relations and the Role of Ankara University on the 70th Anniversary of CERN”
As Ankara University Office of the Dean of Research, we organized a PANEL event on “Türkiye-CERN Relations and the Role of Ankara University on the 70th Anniversary of CERN” on May 9, 2024. On the 70th anniversary of the establishment of CERN, our country’s relations with CERN and in this context, the work of our University researchers within the scope of CERN projects were discussed. Our panel event started with the opening speeches of the Rector of our University Prof. Dr. Necdet ÜNÜVAR and the Dean of Research Prof. Dr. Kaan ORHAN. After the presentation titled “70 Years of CERN from its Establishment to the Present”, it continued with two sessions. In the first session, in addition to the representatives of TENMAK, TÜBİTAK and TOBB, which have interests and responsibilities in the relations with CERN in our country, Prof. Dr. Frank Zimmermann from CERN and Prof. Dr. Serkant Ali ÇETİN from Istinye University on behalf of the scientists participating in the experiments at CERN, presented the contributions of Turkish researchers in CERN projects. In the second session of the panel, the role of Ankara University in CERN experiments/projects and the work carried out in this context were discussed with presentations given by the team leaders of the ATLAS Experiment and CLIC, FCC, SHiP and LHeC projects respectively. At the end of the sessions, the questions of the participants were answered and the panelists were presented with certificates of appreciation prepared by the Dean’s Office. The panel event was followed by approximately 200 participants in the hall, and the panel program, which lasted approximately 5 hours, was also broadcast live on the Youtube channel of the Faculty of Dentistry, which hosted the event.
