The International Congress on Applied Statistics (UYİK-2025) was held on May 14–16, 2025, hosted by Ankara University.

The congress was organized to discuss current developments in the theory and application of statistics and to strengthen academic and sectoral collaborations. Under the auspices of Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University, and with the cooperation of Ankara University, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the Turkish Statistical Association, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, and Selçuk University, the congress brought together researchers who apply statistical methods across different disciplines.

Within this framework, a paper prepared by the Office of the Dean of Research at Ankara University was presented at the congress by Prof. Dr. Özlem Türkşen, a faculty member at the Faculty of Science. The presentation, titled “Data-Driven Decision Making for the Employment of Research Assistants in Higher Education: The Case of Ankara University,” addressed how data-driven decision-making processes can be used in planning the employment of research assistants at the higher education level. The paper introduced an analysis model developed specifically for Ankara University and provided a detailed assessment of how determining the need for research assistants based on objective criteria contributes to institutional planning.

In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Kaan Orhan, Dean of Research and Vice Rector of Ankara University, expressed his great satisfaction in participating in UYİK-2025 with this inaugural paper, which was prepared to support scientific production and data-driven decision-making processes, and in hosting the congress as a university.

He also extended his gratitude to all partner institutions, esteemed participants, and Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University for their contributions to the organization of the congress. He emphasized that this collaboration made a significant contribution to knowledge sharing and research development in academic circles.
